Top three reasons to become a counselor

1.  The money

2.  Work hours

3.  Prestige

So, keep in mind the main reason most of us get into the helping profession is because we want to make the world a better place and help others achieve success.  I wish the above were also true, and I do believe that we can change the culture of counseling and mental health to make this true.  Right now, what are your top three reasons for becoming a counselor?

For me, it's centered around the goal of helping people get better.  Not just helping people overcome major trauma, but going along on the journey of becoming more complete as a person.  I also wanted to run my own business and have freedom in my work.  Counseling just seemed like the perfect fit.

I'm curious to hear some responses from others.  What are your top three reasons you became a counselor?
