What's Holding You Back?

You have to have confidence in your ability, and then be tough enough to follow through.
— Rosalynn Carter

Sometimes, this is what we see ahead of us.  It's dark, creepy, foggy, and it doesn't appear to be the "safe" play.  So, instead of taking the risk, we stay put.  Many times, change doesn't occur until a person becomes so ticked off at their current situation that they hit rock bottom.  Once there, a person now has the motivation to change.  It's sad....  Why wait until you are miserable for 1, 3, or 5 years before attempting a "pivot" that could instantly improve quality of life.  Our time is finite here on this planet, so please don't waste it due to fear.

What is holding you back?  Fear of failure?  Fear of judgment?  Fear of the unknown?  Fear of success?  The first step is to be very honest with yourself as to why you are not meeting your full potential.  For me, it's always been fear of failure.  It's "safer" to take the easy route and continue doing the status quo.  Now, to overcome this thinking, I attempt to learn about something new and different every day.  It breaks me free of my comfort zone.  As therapists, we work with people every day, helping them overcome fear and insecurity.  It's time you buy in to the product you are selling.

Take some time to think about the lifestyle you truly want.  If you are like me, it's definitely not sitting in an office all day, receiving a minimal income for the important work we do.  Again, think about the life you WANT.  Once you have a mental picture, start planning and working towards accomplishing your goals.  Fear will always be there, but there is a very simple and effective cure: ACTION!  Do something.  It can be anything.  I promise it will help ease the anxiety and fear of change.
